Today I decided to wear my beloved “I’m so unique!” shirt because a video I had to watch for class reminded me of it. I bought it in Milan a few years ago because it struck me as funny and appropriate. People occasionally refer to my style as ‘unique’ and that always seems a bit off to me. Like, how is my style more unique than anyone elses?
I think it’s just something that people use when they can’t think of a better word (which is when I use it, yes I have because I am a total hypocrite) and want to say something like ‘interesting’, ‘refreshing’, … Personally, I like to think of my own style as obnoxious but that’s because I just love that word :D.
Not that it’s something that particularly bothers me or anything… Just something I was thinking about.

This ‘Whale Brigade’ brooch was made by my best friend. I wanted to wear it on my skirt, but when I put it on that seemed off. However, on the ear of my (really weird) bunny is fine too, right? :D

The dictionary meaning of unique is ‘unlike anything else’. So I don’t think it’s a poorly chosen word at all? I think it’s even more appropriate than ‘interesting’ or whatever because you know there are a lot of people that don’t think a certain style interesting or even nice…but simply unique. I often get that and I often get the sense they are either trying to make clear that things are ugly (especially like 2 years ago or so where I’d often wear incredibly unmatchy outfits etc. XD) or they haven’t really seen that much of “differently dressed” people or whatevs.
I find your style unique in the sense that there are so so many influences in your style and it’s extraordinarily colourful. Though it is debatable that anything can be considered truly unique.

Maybe you think unique is a poorly chosen word but if you watch what kind of outfits most people wear in Ghent, you’ll see thay in comparison with loads of people your style is much more colourfull. A lot of people only wear bright colours in summer, but even then there’s still a difference because most people follow the more mainstream stuff or wear the kind of clothes their friends wear.
So I can sort of understand why people often refer to your look as unique, even though my opinion is that nobody is really unique because almost everything is done anyway.
Omg dude I’ve held a Jurasic Park Marathon while working on illustration and omg… I LOVE THEM. My favourite is the second one. :D I can’t believe I never watched these when I was younger, but I’m ttly fangirling now. :B Btw: Wnn is kaas en wijn avond?? D:

Very fun outfit. Love the yellow tights with the pink! You (sort of) match your background! I think unique is a word that everyone has a hard time “feeling”. I know people always call me unique (not the dressing the ME) and I’m always like: “I don’t get it. But people say it.”
I mean, we’re the only MEs we’ve ever been. So to ourselves we are (for the most part) pretty darn ordinary I think!

I KNOW RIGHT. It always stays in shape and I don’t know how! (aside from that it’s a thick, strong fabric)
I think vocabulary is pretty debatable yeah so I get it and I get what people mean by it. But I just tend to think of unique as something that applies to either everyone or no one. Because even the people who wear what I think is boring jeans etc don’t look like each other all that much?

Haha, my opinion is more that everyone is unique XD! Or no one is. But I don’t think some people dress moer unique than others. All the people who dress really ordinary and what I would call ‘boring’ still don’t look the same if you look closely enough.
It’s just a personal interpretation of the word though, I think. WHATEVER.
YES THEY ARE AWESOME AND I’M GLAD YOU LOVE THEM. I love the first one most (obv, it was the only one I saw when I was a kid & in the theatre) because the family is SO SO lame and the dinosaurs are SO SO awesome and the whole thing is a mix of awesomeness and hilarity.
I don’t know the other ones that well though. Maybe we could watch one this weekend?

Haha, exactly! Life-wise I think I’m pretty ordinary and boring yet other people don’t always seem to think so? I like myself, but I don’t always get how other people view me XD.

Another wonderful outfit. A-line skirts are quite flattering on you. What makes your sty;e unique is that you tend to wear bright colors in a sophisticated way. Your style also has a sense of playfulness and fun while still having elements of tradition.
